Created by Edgard Derouet (1910 – 2001) in 1939, this original art piece is signed by the artist couple of Derouet and Lesacq. The poster measures 23.6×15.7 inches (60×40 cm) and is made of paper. The poster is unframed and is a single piece unit quantity. BackgroundThe Loterie Nationale was created in France in May 1933. Its dividends were slated for a retirement fund in favor of the war veterans. Beginning in 1952 the Loterie Nationale faced a tough competition from the PMU (horse races). The last draw of the Loterie Nationale took place in December 1990, when it is was replaced by the more and more popular Loto. This poster of 1939 was done for the drawing advertising the “week-ends” of the French railways, presenting the Jumping Man dressed with the French flag stripes, above the LA MARSEILLAISE title, all of which saying patriotism. This is one piece out of many created by the artists Edgar Derouet and Charles Lesacq (signed as Derouet – Lesacq) who are the creators of many of the Loterie Nationale’s posters. This poster was created by Derouet.
