Listed Italian artist Silvano Gamba* Signed, on lower left, this Modernist Farmyard Landscape, an Original Oil on Canvas from, we believe, the late 60’s or early 70’s. Gamba is best known for his treatment of light (and their sources) and we see that here with shafts of light hitting the hay at center and in various other spots – upper floor of house at right, through the barn in back and the shed and tree at left. Cool blue color palette interspersed with light and snippets of color. Masterful! Authentic Italian Import stamp on back.Canvas measures 19 3/4 X 23 1/2 and is in Very Good condition.Please carefully examine all images for condition. *Silvano Gamba (b. 1939) in Gallarate (Varese, Italy). He started his artistic activity devoting himself for 10 years to the art of xylographical (woodcut/woodblock) engraving, moving on to artistic ceramics and later still to oil paintings. His subjects are treated in a very personal and particular way; reality as he sees it is filtered through dreams, memories surfacing from the unconscious. The result is remarkable.The impression given when looking at the pictures of still being able to participate in the world of fairy-tales which, with the passing of the years, one has left behind. Holler wrote of him “knowing this artist one seems, though his paintings, to turn inwards to the best of oneself, honesty towards everyone and everything, and it would not be wrong for him to be considered the painter of truth”. Silvano Gamba has participated in numerous competitions, winning prizes and gaining recognition from both the critics and the public. In 1975 he was invited to the Rome Art Quadrennial.
